Do you guys go for regular dental check-ups?

Do you guys go for regular dental check ups? smile and dental mirror1

This could be classify as a personal finance question, but I am aware some of my friends like myself have a phobia of dentist and therefore do not go for dental check-ups?

Do you guys go for your yearly check-ups and how much do you normally spend on this?

Taking care of our dental health to ensure that our teeth will stick on to our gum as long as possible when we age.

Losing our teeth before 40s or 50s due to poor dental health care is bad.

Hi Drizzt,
This post is interestingly, quite different from your other investment related posts.

Do see your dentist, not yearly, but twice a year!

I should be able to advise you on this… I’m a dentist myself.

Agree with the post above mine…
except that you don’t need to lose your teeth even after 40s or 50s. More and more people are keeping their teeth way into their old age, as long as you take the effor to maintain.

Treat it as an investment. If you use a DCF valuation model, I’m sure your dental health will prove to be a great investment. haha!

Dear Drizzt,

I work in the personal finance industry and I appreciate the information that you provide very very much. As your numbers give me the information to advise my mother on her finances.

Your style of writing makes fact and opinion very well differentiated and I really really appreciate what you do on a regular basis.

On your post – please go farking see the dentist. Your fear of dentist makes me cringe. Be a man.

Regards,
Kelvin

p.s. just joking, my friend.

Hiya,

Maybe I’m weird but I do kind of enjoy going to the dentist. The sound of the machines, the smell and taste,….

Ok back to the main topic. I spent about SG$60 per visit (check up and cleaning) and I try to go about three times a year because I have had mmultiple root canels and implants.

I would strongly encourage everyone to go for a regular checkup. No amount of money would be able to save a decayed tooth.

Hello Drizzt,

What a novel post!

I “try” to visit my dentist at least once a year whenever I am in Singapore. I know I should do it at least twice a year. Will do so from now on.

It costs me around SGD 80.00 for the check-up and cleaning.

Just a thought for all the dentists out there. A simple SMS or email reminder every 6 motnhs to your client base may help improve “business” with very little costs.

My dentist don’t do it. Not everyone is like Derek; I think most people would want to “forget” they have a dental appointment!

When I ask my pretty barber how often should I cut my hair? She replied if you miss me, you can come and cut your hair every fortnight.

Is your dentist pretty? LOL

Createwealth, my dentist is pretty pretty. The assistants around helping out i think are interns. If you like kawaii gals, that is the place to be.

I try to go twice a year but probably regretted not taking care of my teeth well enough.

I was never patient with brushing my teeth and as such they were not well maintain even from a young age.

But the worse part was that the scaling that took place in school left alot of haunting memories. Nowadays with the kind of scaling, one shouldn’t have to worry.

Well if my teeth can be scaled and i am able to tahan the pain then i believe most people can.

The thing about maintaining teeth is really like investments, without doing this consistently once when you become older you regretted it more because the outlay is greater.

Why i raise this post is because i am just doing a simple survey, I do encounter friends and colleagues that don’t even go to dentist!

Hi GF, Wow never knew you are a dentist. I thought they have to compensate you well to always see people with problematic teeth like mine.

I decide to make this my personal project to make it a habit to keep my teeth in a better condition.

Hi Kelvin, thanks for visiting my blog. I try to share my experience so that people dun fall into the same trap as me. I hope it helps your family and you as much in any little small ways. Be well and prosper.

Great to see that most people who post here are seeing their dentists at least twice a year.

yeah, I’m a dentist, it’s a great job.
Get to meet lots of people, and everyone’s teeth are different and always interesting.

Like you said, maintenance is like investing. If you start later, it gets tougher. hah…

Cheers all.

Hi,
Yes by the time you need a tooth implant, do you know how many thousands of $ you have to fork out? But you can use part of your Medisave to pay. Remember only for one tooth implant. How many you need?
So use dental floss is the secret after every meal. After you get use to it you cannot stop anymore. And when you see your dentist, he will definitely praise you for having a healthy set of teeth and gum that makes his work so much easier.

thanks for the advice guys, but do you think interdental brush do work?

Interdental brushes are useful if you have gum recession and big gaps between your teeth.
If your gums are fine, flossing would be better.
But if there are visibly large gaps between your teeth, the interdental brush would be more effective.

Cheers

Hi GF, thanks for the advice. it is certainly nice to have a dental consultant on my blog!
