why i sold my iPhone during this iPhone craze in Singapore
We do know that currently not only Singtel sells iPhones in Singapore. M1 and Starhub have came up with attractive deals for it.And the whole of Singapore is so crazy over it that you are seeing iphones everywhere, just like when Nokia phones become very hot.
Apparently they have shown the way that iPhone can be sold for alot less and that means value for you consumers. So you would ask was it worth the hype?
Yes definitely. I would say that this phone is selling not just because it looks hip and cool and its Apple but also because it boast a very fast processor and its user computer interaction is first rated. I have never used a phone that respond so well before. It App Store enables you to easily purchase apps or songs direct from your 3G mobile data connection and you would just have to pay for it via your credit card at the end of the month. how easy is that.
I blog a fair bit on using the iPhone for productivity at Productive Organizer so obviously i feel it really helps a person be more productive.
So why did i sold my iPhone when i first bought it? Well firstly i think its not really a value buy like stock investing. True enough the price came down once the competitors come in. I bought it for $748 and sold it for $1170. Right now the second hand market price is around 100 less at 1050 for 32 GB iPhone.
Another reason is that i have an 8GB iPod Touch 2G which i bought for $330 in july. The iPod Touch is just like an iPhone only it doesn’t have GPS and Voice calling function. It has access to the App Store, which means you can play the same game, listen to the same music, watch the same video, read the same books and use the same apps as the iPhone (just that you can’t use well those apps that integrates with talking)
It doesn’t have a 3G connection but that is not a problem if you are using a Nokia S60 phone or an existing windows mobile phone. In this article i write about how you can share your phone’s internet connection via wirelessly with your ipod touch.
As a summary i think its very hyped up and there is a premium in its pricing and that i have an ipod touch which suits my needs well (i love my touch alot TBH).I would rather liquidate and keep this 420 bucks and see what other phone comes along in the horizon.
A few tips that i can say to help you guys evaluate better:
- count the cost of purchasing apps monthly into your evaluation of whether you should get 16GB or 32GB. thats why i go for a 8bg ipod touch compare to a 16GB one. save 100 buy more apps. apps add value not flash hard disk space
- if you don’t listen to music, don’t play games or are more of an Enterprise user you might as well try Blackberry or Nokia E71 series phones.
- set a monthly budget for your application purchase if not you will blow it.
- not having an iPhone is not end of the world.you will just be unhipped and uncool to your friends.
- you cannot edit excel or word documents well on a mobile device with a 3.5 inch screen so if you are thinking of doing that don’t bother.
- you are likely to use only 3-5 applications out of so many u download most of the time.
- the ipod touch and iphone makes a darn good portable book reader. good for people that reads on the mrt train.
