Hi there, i agree with what you that alot needs to be done with how they handle their own restraunt business. however, I feel they are entrench in that area with the Macdonald's brand.

to further build on that brand, taking a low cost business and selling it at a high price but lower then startbucks should sound good for the management, hence this step.

I find it amazing that McDonalds feels that it can try to take over this market.
There is one big problem that I feel they have neglected to recongnize. I have seen in the last several years that most McDonalds now employee foriegn workers (Hispanic and Oriental) who for the most part do not speak very good english. My sister likes to have her breakfast sasage McMuffin without cheese and 80% of the time the employees can't get that correct, and these are the employees that McDonalds feel will be able to make numerous variations of coffee?
If they can't train their employees correctly to provide fast hambergers and fries with different options, then how do they expect them to make all these lattes and other drinks correctly.
I also dont see most people wanting to sit in a McDonalds reading a book or working on a computer with kids crying, running, and winning.

I think that McDonalds has bitten off more than it can chew. I wish that McDonalds would fix their own business model before they go after someone elses business.

Also have you ever seen the amount of time it takes to get a breakfast or lunch item during their prime times. The ones Ive been in recently take 5 to 8 minutes just to get fast food inside, most do not seem to be very well organized, and they want to add a coffee bar to that mix.
Good luck their going to be wasting their time and money.

Great article. Hope the author is correct. I've heard that McDonald's coffee has improved and I have tried it. So far 100% disappointment. They will leave the coffee on too long. It often tastes over cooked. I'm more concerned about Tim Hortons and Dunkin Donuts. If the latter were publicly traded I'd invest in a flash. Prefer their coffees over Starbucks.
